NEW YORK (United Nations) – Wednesday, 31 August 2022 (APS) – The UN Security Council has, in a resolution adopted unanimously, welcomed the role played by Algeria to help the Malian parties to implement the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali resulting from the Algiers process.

 

In its resolution S/RES/2649/2022 on the situation in Mali and adopted Tuesday unanimously, the Security Council “welcomed the role played by Algeria and other members of the international mediation team led by Algeria to help the Malian parties to implement the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali resulting from the Algiers process.

In this regard, the Security Council stressed “the need for greater commitment by the members of the international mediation team in implementing the Agreement”, emphasizing in addition “the role that the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Mali play in supporting the implementation of the Agreement.”

The Security Council did not fail to recall the “centrality” of the provisions of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali resulting from the Algiers process.

Members of the Security Council have further ” expressed their full support for this agreement, and their commitment to closely monitor its implementation and, if necessary, to take measures against anyone who would impede the implementation of the commitments contained therein.
