ALGIERS – Wednesday, 05 October 2022 (APS) – Portugal’s Foreign Minister Joao Gomes Cravinho affirmed Wednesday his country’s willingness to develop its “historical” relations with Algeria, stressing the importance to rely on “friendly and stable countries with which we have close relations, given the international situation.”
“I was honored to be received by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune to whom I conveyed the heartfelt greetings of the Portuguese President,” said Cravinho after the audience granted to him by President Tebboune.
“I told President Tebboune that we expected him to visit Portugal in 2023,” he said.
“This visit will be an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of friendship and enhance the relations between our two countries,” he said.
“We live in a time of instability in international relations. In such conditions, it is important to rely on stable friendly countries with which we are bound by relations of trust,” he continued.
Recalling that Algeria and Portugal were linked by “historical” relations, Cravinho stressed the ambition of his country to “further develop them in the future.”
“It is my first time in Algeria as a foreign minister. It is a friendship visit through which we hope to tighten the bonds of friendship between our two countries,” stressed Portugal’s FM.
