ORAN – Wednesday, 27 December 2023 (APS) – About 1,500 tons of fishery products were exported from Oran to European and Arab countries during the first ten months of 2023, said on Tuesday the provincial director of Fishing and Fishery Products Maghni Sandid Menouar.
Sandid said, in a report on the fishing sector of Oran for 2023, presented during the 4th ordinary session of the People’s provincial assembly, that a total of 1,496 tons of fishery products were exported until last October from the port of Oran to Portugal, France, Italy and Libya, comprising notably mollusks, shellfish and canned tuna.
According to the official, the quantities of exported fishery products recorded a sharp increase during 2023 compared to 2022, a year during which a production of 956 tons, including 893 tons of mollusks, 37 tons of shellfish and 26 tons of canned tuna, was achieved.
During the same period, a total of 18,951 tons of fishery products were imported from China, India, Thailand and Portugal, including 90% destined to transformation in the units of the province of Oran, according to the official.
About 8,000 tons of fish, including 215.5 tons of white fish, 6,742 tons of small pelagic fish, 706 tons of big pelagic fish, in addition to 86 tons of shellfish and 12 tons of mollusks, were fished from January to October 2023 in the piorts of Oran and Arzew, said the source.
According to Sandid, the sector of fishing and fishery products in Oran comprises to fishing ports in Arzew and Oran.
