ALGIERS – Thursday, 23 November 2023 (APS) – The Minister of Justice, Abderrachid Tabi underlined Wednesday in Algiers the commitment of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to the generalisation of digitization as a strategic option and an essential factor in the fight against forgery.
Answering questions from deputies during a session on the draft law on the fight against forgery and the use of forgeries at the People’s National Assembly (Lower House), Tabi affirmed that the President of the Republic insists on the generalization of digitization in all sectors and had given firm instructions in this respect, setting deadlines for this strategic effort, as a strategic option and essential factor in the fight against forgery and the use of forgeries which cause damage to society.
Stressing that digitization has several advantages, including helping to preserve the integrity of administrative documents, verifying their sources of issue and making transactions more transparent, the Minister indicated that work was underway to assign each administrative document a unique identification number to protect it against attempts at falsification.
According to Tabi, the establishment of a law to combat forgery, without including it in the penal code, is explained by the nature of this law which provides for preventive measures such as the obligation for administrations and organizations to use digitization.
Tabi seized this opportunity to point out that the draft law on the fight against forgery and the use of forgeries is in line with the President of the Republic’s instructions to draw up a special law to combat this scourge, which has affected many fields.
According to the Minister, this scourge is characterized by “the obtention of undue advantages, bonuses, social aid and tax exemptions, housing and others, which has cost the public treasury colossal sums in recent years.”
