ALGIERS – Thursday, 28 September 2023 (APS) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ahmed Attaf emphasized Wednesday, in Algiers, the commitment of the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune to mobilizing the Algerian diplomacy in the defense of Africa’s causes, interests and priorities, notably as part of Algeria’s next mandate to the Security Council.

Attaf made a speech before the African diplomats accredited in Algeria who took part in the wrap-up of the first training session organized by the Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations (IDRI) for the African diplomats accredited in Algeria.

Attaf affirmed the commitment of the President of the Republic to making Algeria’s next mandate to the Security Council a platform for the African continent and a mouthpiece of solidarity, cooperation and mutual aid between the African countries and peoples.

“The President of the Republic is aware of the common fate that binds us in the face of the challenges threatening us at the geopolitical level and in their security, socio-economic and environmental dimensions,” said Attaf.

The minister stressed “the unique and singular character of the Algerian foreign policy in its African dimension, a position that has been strengthened under the leadership of the President of the Republic who gave it a strategic dimension, in addition to the important commitments and tireless efforts that he initiated notably in three main fields, namely his determination to “relaunch the correlation between the development and security to free the continent from the dangers of armed conflicts and face the different cross-border challenges.”

This “is reflected in the efforts made by the Algerian International Cooperation Agency for Solidarity and Development (ALDEC), initiated by the President of the Republic, provided with important resources to strengthen its capacities for the enshrinement of Algeria’s African depth, and the contribution to the financing of development projects meeting the main needs of our brothers, with whom we share the concerns and aspiration of our continent,” he added.

The second field concerns the adoption, by the President of the Republic, of a proactive approach to contribute to the settlement of the crises and conflicts as part of the principle of “African solutions to the continent’s problems,” an approach summed up in the initiative of the President of the Republic aimed to ensure, at a crucial moment, a political solution to the ongoing crisis In Niger, in order to avoid using force or resorting to war, which almost led this brotherly country and the whole region to a future with disastrous consequences.

The third field, he said, concerns the commitment of the President of the Republic to mobilizing the Algerian diplomacy in the defense of the causes, interests and priorities of the African continent, notably during Algeria’s mandate in the Security Council.
