ALGIERS – Monday, 08 August 2022 (APS) – Mali welcomes President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s interest in the relationship between Algiers and Bamako, the Malian minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, said Sunday evening, expressing his country’s wish that Algeria would continue to play a leading role in Mali.
“I appreciate the interest and importance attached by President Tebboune to the relationship between Mali and Algeria, and which should always be a factor of peace and stability in the region,” Diop said following a meeting with the minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra.
“We mainly appreciate President Tebboune’s recent strong statement stressing Algeria’s commitment to Mali’s unity and territorial integrity (and) the importance for the Malian parties to advance quickly and deeply in the implementation of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali, the outcome of Algiers process, and which is first and foremost in the interest of the Malian people.”
In addition to the Agreement of Algiers, the Malian minister said he discussed with his Algerian counterpart “the need to work further for the reactivation of the frameworks and mechanisms of consultation and dialogue.”
