ALGIERS – Tuesday, 25 July 2023 (APS) – The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, and the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, are taking part in the work of the Africa Human Capital Heads of State Summit being held on 25-26 July in Dar es Salam (Tanzania).

The participation of Baddari and Oualid, mandated by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to represent Algeria at the Summit, will be an opportunity to “present Algeria’s experience in developing human capital and strengthening its role in building a sustainable national economy, based on human development,” said Tuesday a press release from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-Enterprises.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the efforts of the Higher Education sector, which is investing in the professions of the future, notably through the creation of a school of artificial intelligence and the creation of specialties in nanotechnology and robotics.

Algeria’s representatives will highlight the orientation of the Algerian university towards entrepreneurship and innovation, recalling the significant figures achieved by Algeria in terms of human development, knowing that a third of Algerians receive their training at schools, universities, and vocational training institutes, in addition to the achievements linked to free education in the country and a large number of schools and universities.

Public policies in Algeria are tending to enshrine entrepreneurship among young people and in the university environment, following a series of measures encouraging the emergence of young energies in the entrepreneurial field, add the same source.

Algeria’s “pioneering” role in Africa in supporting startups and innovation will also be emphasized through efforts to create an integrated ecosystem to benefit the continent’s skills and talents. Algeria has also enacted legislation that encourages investment in knowledge.

The two ministers will be taking part in meetings focusing on innovation and technology transfer issues and their impact on employment, as well as on the policies that have been adopted in Algeria in this field.

In this context, Oualid will partake in a debate on the challenges of the trades of the future and how to meet them, according to the same source.
