ALGIERS – Wednesday, 25 October 2023 (APS) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held talks with his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council during the month of October, on the sidelines of his participation in the work of the high-level meeting of the Security Council at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) in New York, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release on Wednesday.
“Attaf, who welcomed the organization by the Brazilian Presidency of a thematic session on the situation in the Middle East, particularly in occupied Palestine”, asserted that “this initiative is likely to highlight the responsibility incumbent on the Security Council to provide international protection for the Palestinian people under occupation, and to put an end to the crimes perpetrated against them,” said the communiqué.
The meeting was also an opportunity to “review the efforts made to promulgate a Security Council resolution reflecting the gravity of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the scale of the challenges imposed by Zionist aggression against civilians in the besieged Gaza Strip.”
The two FMs discussed “bilateral relations and agreed to exchange visits as soon as possible, as well as to work towards re-launching and activating the Africa-Latin America partnership frameworks.”
