ALGIERS – Monday, 23 October 2023 (APS) – Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab called Monday, in Algiers, for the implementation of an “exceptional, real and solid” partnership with Germany in the field of energy and of renewable energy, in order to execute the planned projects, notably the project of electrical cable linking Algeria to Europe.
In an address made during the fifth Algerian-German Energy Day, held at the headquarters of the ministry, under the theme “the future technologies that link us-Renewable energy and green hydrogen,” Arkab stressed the necessity of “implementing an exceptional, real and solid partnership with Germany in the field of energy and renewable energy, which exceeds trading,” while committing to “strengthening, promoting and to give the necessary boost to execute the expected projects.”
In this respect, Arkab called on the German partners to “participate and support the execution of the Algerian-European electrical cable project, which will enable exporting clean and renewable energy and secure the electrical connectivity at the regional and international levels.”
The partners are also called to “contribute to the speeding up of energy transition process and reduction of carbon footprint,” he said, pointing out that this project is part of Algeria’s strategy aimed to strengthen its electric transport infrastructures.
The minister reported a “feasibility study of scientific experimental projects to control the production value chain of green hydrogen, including a project with a capacity of 50 megawatts, with a contribution of USD35 million offered as a gift by the German government.”
It is also a cooperation with the German partners for the launch of “TaqatHy” project, which aims to “strengthen the technical skills through the whole value chain of renewable energy and of hydrogen, and the transfer of knowledge in the technical fields, including the regulatory and institutional aspects,” added the minister.
As part of the strategic dialogue with the European side, Arkab underlined “an ongoing feasibility study for the creation of SoutH2 Corridor, and ambitious projects requiring,” he said “thorough technical-economic studies with the companies concerned by this important project.”
