ALGIERS – Tuesday, 12 December 2023 (APS) – Minister of Finance, Laaziz Faid, received on Tuesday in Algiers Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Africa (OSAA), Cristina Duarte, with whom he discussed the status and prospects for collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and the United Nations system, according to statement from the ministry.
During the meeting, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters, Duarte was accompanied by the resident representatives of the UNDP and UNICEF in Algeria, the same source said.
The meeting was “an opportunity to discuss the status and prospects for collaboration between the Algerian Ministry of Finance and the United Nations System, particularly with regard to the paradigm shift in financing for development in Africa.”
Duarte said that “the United Nations supports African countries in a number of areas that are part of sustainable development objectives, such as education and health, climate and energy, peace and security, etc,” the ministry added.
During the meeting, the two parties discussed the challenges faced by African countries in financing their socio-economic development, particularly in terms of strengthening confidence in public institutions, improving the quality of public finance management and promoting the digitization of administration, especially in the finance sector.
“Over the last few decades, the African continent has become aware of its capacities and potential, which has enabled many African countries to make undeniable progress in terms of sustainable development.”
Citing Algeria as an example of these countries, she said that “the Algerian experience deserves to be shared on the African and international stage,” concluded the source.
