VIENNA – Saturday, 30 September 2023 (APS) – Algeria’s permanent representative in Vienna Larbi Latroch reaffirmed, during the participation of the Algerian delegation in the 67th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Algeria’s support to the efforts of the Agency aimed at enabling the developing countries to further benefit from the peaceful use of the nuclear energy, particularly in the fields of health, agriculture, water resources and environment.

During the general debate of the 67th session of IAEA General Conference, whose works started on 25 September in Vienna, the ambassador Latroch welcomed the level of the implementation of technical cooperation activities with the Agency in accordance with the relevant national priorities, emphasizing the different efforts made by Algeria to strengthen the capacities related to the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

He underlined that “Algeria accompanies the Agency in the process meant to strengthen the capacities of the brotherly African countries, notably in radiation medicine through the training available in the specialized national centers.”

As part of Algeria’s rotating presidency of the African Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development and Training related to Nuclear Science and Technology (AFRA) as from September 2023, Latroch emphasized Algeria’s determination to continue its efforts aimed to accompany our African brothers in the field of sciences and nuclear applications.
