ALGIERS – Friday, 27 October 2023 (APS) – The minister of foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, said in an address in a debate at the UN Security Council on “Women, peace and Security,” that “Algeria proudly withholds the contributions of its valiant girls who have left their mark on various prominent stages of our country’s history.”
“Twenty-three years ago, our Council adopted a historic decision, Resolution 1325, through which the international community recognizes women’s key role, mainly in terms of conflict prevention and mitigation of conflicts, even better for most cases, in the implementation of peaceful and sustainable solutions to conflicts,” Attaf said.
“As stressed in the address of the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the general debate of the current session of the UN General Assembly, my country adopted last July a national action plan as a contribution to the implementation of the objectives of the relevant UN resolution, to strengthen the position of women in relation to peace and security and their effective role in establishing peace everywhere, at all times and in all circumstances,” the minister said.
Attaf said the adoption of the National Action Plan to implement the Resolution 1325, as mentioned in the fourth recommendation of the latest report of the UN secretary-general on the issue, will have a significant impact on the promotion of these guidelines and the strengthening of Algeria’s gains in the field.
In this respect, the minister cited the increase of jobs offered to women in security and military bodies, for an effective female participation and the preservation of security and stability, in addition to a support of women’s access to positions of responsibility in security bodies.
