NEW YORK (United Nations) – Wednesday, 20 September 2023 (APS) – The president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressed Tuesday in New York the significant gains achieved by Algeria in terms of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the promotion and strengthening of human rights.
In an address at the 78th ordinary session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), the president of the Republic, President Tebboune said Algeria had adopted “the sustainable development plan as a national priority as part of the government’s programmes and strategies.”
In this respect, the president of the Republic said that “great strides have been made and convincing results have been achieved in terms of the Sustainable Development Goals, mainly in education, health, building, electricity and water.”
“More than eight years after the adoption of the Programme 2030 of the sustainable development and the action plan of Addis Ababa, many developing countries are still facing challenges that require more solidarity at the international level for a better world and an effective and fair economic model, for the achievement of sustainable development,” President Tebboune said.
With regard to the promotion of human rights, the president of the Republic said “Algeria, which received the support and confidence of the member countries of the Human Rights Council to get the membership, is a party to international human rights treaties.
Algeria works for strengthening cooperation and will continue coordination with human rights groups and organizations and the universal periodic review (UPR) mechanisms.”
He recalled in this regard that Algeria had submitted, in November 2022, its fourth national report as part of the mechanism.
