ALGIERS – Friday, 08 September 2023 (APS) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held talks with his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó in Budapest on Friday, as part of the working visit he is making to Hungary, the Ministry said in a press release.
The talks focused on ways to breathe new life into relations of cooperation and friendship between the two countries, as well as on international and regional issues that are central to the foreign policies of both states, said the same source.
In this regard, Attaf affirmed that the aim of his visit was to “affirm Algeria’s commitment to boosting its ties with Hungary, and to working to create conditions conducive to the growth and development of these relations.”
At the end of the consultations, Attaf emphasized, in a statement to the press, “the depth of the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, which date back to the Glorious War of Liberation, which benefited from the great support and solidarity of the Hungarian state and people.”
For his part, the Hungarian Foreign Minister discussed “several points in common between the two countries”, referring to “their attachment to peace and freedom, their sovereignty and the independence of their foreign policy.”
With regard to the conclusions of the consultations with his Hungarian counterpart, Attaf emphasized: “the convergence of views on a number of practical steps capable of strengthening bilateral contacts both at the official level and in business circles, boosting the various mechanisms for bilateral cooperation and increasing the value of trade and investment between the two countries.”
The Minister mentioned “several projects underway or under study in important areas such as conventional energy, renewable energy, training, security cooperation, agriculture, fisheries and air transport.”
The Hungarian FM expressed “his country’s willingness to import Algerian gas as part of its strategy to diversify its sources of supply.”
