ALGIERS – Monday, 21 August 2023 (APS) – The Minister of Finance, Laaziz Faid flew to Johannesburg (South Africa) to take part, as representative of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the “BRICS Outreach Plus” under the 15th session of the BRICS Summit, the Ministry said Monday in a press release.

The Minister travelled to Johannesburg yesterday on Sunday to participate in the “BRICS Outreach Plus” forum, which is scheduled to start next Thursday, the same source said.

This event is part of the 15th session of the BRICS Summit, taking place from Tuesday, August 22 to Thursday, August 24, under the theme “BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development and Inclusive Multilateralism”

In addition to the leaders of the five BRICS countries, the forum will bring together heads of state and government from 67 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Caribbean, as well as heads of international and regional organizations.

“Algeria’s participation in this forum reflects the interest shown by the country’s authorities in contributing to the debate on issues linked to recovery from multidimensional crises, the strengthening of fair multilateralism and the reform of global governance,” the Ministry said.

The event will provide an opportunity for participants to exchange views at the highest level on topical issues, including ways to boost cooperation between developing countries to ensure an inclusive global economic recovery and sustainable development.

“These themes, which will be debated in the presence of eminent personalities and heads of state, testify to the importance of united action for a more responsive and fairer global economic system, making it possible to combat inequalities, accelerate the climate transition and strengthen the chances of achieving the objectives of sustainable development,” said the source.

On the sidelines of the event, Faid will meet with officials from a number of BRICS member and non-member countries, with whom he will exchange views on the status and prospects of cooperation with Algeria.
