TUNIS (Tunisia) – Monday, 22 August 2022 (APS) – Algerian swimmers won four new medals (2 gold, 2 silver), on Sunday, the second day of the 15th CANA Africa Senior Swimming Championships (men and women) in Tunis, Tunisia.

Algeria’s gold medals went to Jaouad Syoud in the 200m breaststroke event (1:01.18) and Ardjoune Abdallah in the 200m backstroke (2:00.88).

The silver medals were won by Nefsi Rania Hamida in the 100m breaststroke (1:12.55) and by the Algerian team of the 4x100m mixed relay (4:00.44).

The medal tally of Algeria on Sunday reached eight medals, namely four gold and four silver medals.

On Saturday, the first day of the competition, Oussama Sahnoune got a gold medal in 100m freestyle (49.44) and Jaouad Syoud a gold medal in the 200m butterfly (1:58.98).

Nesrine Medjahed received a silver medal in 100m freestyle (57.26) on the same day while another silver medal went to an Algerian team in 4x100m mixed relay freestyle (3:38.98).

The 15th African Swimming Championships will run until August 24th in the Olympic Pool of Rades, with the participation of 29 countries.

Algeria is competing in the championship with 13 swimmers supervised by three coaches.

In addition to Algeria and host country Tunisia, 27 other countries are participating in the event, namely Gambia, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Ghana, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Angola, South Africa, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Egypt, Eswatini, Madagascar, Burundi and Cameroon.
