ALGIERS – Friday, 19 August 2022 (APS) – Fires declared across several provinces in the north of the country have been ” entirely extinguished,” including 73 outbreaks that have been fully contained in the last 24 hours, deputy director of Statistics and Information at the Directorate General of Civil Protection, Colonel Farouk Achour told APS.

 

“Today, around 4:00 am, we managed to extinguish all the fires,” he said.

26 fires were extinguished in the province of El Tarf, 18 fires in Souk Ahras, 4 fires in Tizi Ouzou, 4 in Skikda, 4 in Tipaza, 4 in Guelma, 4 in Constantine, 2 in Setif, 2 in Bejaia, one in Jijel, 1 in Tebessa, one in Chlef, one in Blida and one in Tlemcen, added Colonel Achour.

Another outbreak in the province of Skida has been extinguished but is still under control, he said.

Thirty-seven people have lost their lives and 183 others were injured in these forest fires, according to the latest report of the Civil Protection.

In the province of El-Tarf, 30 people died in these fires, 5 in Souk Ahras, and 2 others who died of their injuries in Setif, according to the same source.
