KUWAIT CITY (Kuwait) – Wednesday, 23 February 2022 (APS) – President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune met Tuesday evening, in Kuwait’s capital, with members of the national community in Kuwait, on the sidelines of an official visit to this country.

During the meeting, Tebboune listened to the concerns and proposals of different speakers, before answering their questions about political, economic and social issues, mentioning Algerian-Kuwaiti relations and ways to promote them.

Concerning bilateral relations, the head of State stressed the “strong” ties of fraternity between the two countries.

He pointed out that despite the long geographic distance between Algeria and the Gulf region, “we try, in the Arab Maghreb, try to get closer to them and defend them because what affects Kuwait, Qatar or Saudi Arabia, affects Algeria.”

President Tebboune reiterated his commitment to further bolstering Algerian-Kuwaiti ties in various fields.

He underlined the national community’s role in this respect, mainly in terms of attainable economic investments in Algeria and in contributing to encouraging Kuwaiti businessmen to carry out projects and invest in our country.

President Tebboune said “new Algeria” is based on “behaviours not individuals,” stressing that “change comes from society.”

Insisting on the need to move away from dependence on oil and gas and get rid of “empty promises,” the president of the Republic reiterated his determination to build a “more realistic” economy, an economy that “uses oil but not based on oil.”

An economy that really creates wealth and jobs, he emphasized.
