ALGIERS – Wednesday, 25 January 2023 (APS) – The 9th session of the Algeria-France political consultations began Wednesday in Algiers, in the presence of the Secretaries General of the Algerian and French Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Amar Belani highlighted “the need to continue the efforts undertaken by both sides to further raise the level of relations and articulate them together to appropriate responses, including the two essential markers of our global relationship that are memory and mobility (…) and the basis of the renewed partnership to which we aspire.”
Belani also welcomed the holding of this meeting which comes “at a time when our bilateral relations are progressing and a positive upward curve under the determined will of our two Presidents of the Republic and their joint commitment to boost relations between Algeria and France while remaining faithful to the Algiers Declaration,” signed on August 27 last on the occasion of the visit of France’s President Emmanuel Macron to Algeria.
He also commended the acceleration of the frequency of bilateral meetings since the holding in Paris last September of the 8th session of political consultations, which confirms “the will of our two countries to give substance to the Algiers Declaration for a renewed partnership between the two countries.”
For her part, the Secretary General of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Anne-Marie Descotes said that five months after the official and friendship visit of the French President to Algiers and Oran last August, “a new stage is being built in the relationship between our two countries that we want full of trust.”
Accompanied by a score of senior officials of cooperation, Descotes stressed that the visit of 15 French ministers in Algiers last October for the High-Level Intergovernmental Committee, identified new areas of cooperation, welcoming the fact that contacts at the level of administrations are gaining in frequency and fluidity since the fall for a better understanding.
